It seems that either your cable or RA keeps messing with your communication, because you keep having this same problem.
It looks as if the communication starts and in the middle it gets corrupt. It is failing after it starts uploading, right?

yep, looks like it's running fine, then fails.
I've tried several different usb ports. Unplugged/rebooted controller.

Do you have any device that may be trying to use the port or anything, because it looks as the problem is not consistent as you mentioned before.

no other devices plugged in to USB ports. I've tried quite a few times with no luck uploading.
Changed ports, rebooted, etc.
