When you purchase a new RA+ does the PH probe come calibrated?

It comes with default calibration, which is fairly close.

maybe i have been reading old posts but it seemed like most recommended buying the 7 and 10 calibration fluid with any RA purchase.

yeah, those are the reference points for the probe. however there can be some conversion if you have different fluids.

so it will work correctly out of the box?

what is the optimal location of the probe to prevent bad readings? I don't plan on doing any diy housing and was just going to drop it in my sump... in my sump i run my skimmer pump, heaters, and 2 float switches from a JBJ ATO

It will work and you will get fairly accurate reading, though for more accurate, the calibration with real standards is necessary.
