Cable Length - Distance and Set-up

Hi all,

I am planning a 250 gal display tank with a downstairs fish room for sump and 2 QT tanks. My problem is checking how to splice and how long you can actually run different cables.

The primary temp and pH probes can be in the overflows in my display tank and I want the head unit beside it so I can shut off pumps when feeding easily. There should be no problem there.

However the relay unit would be downstairs so roughly 15ft away is this ok? What cables do I need?

Next problem I want additional temp probes in my QT tanks that would also be about 15ft away from the head unit, would splicing them to that long be ok? What type of cable do I use?

Then my Tunze 6105 powerheads will be in my display 15ft from relay box. Can you splice the Tunze control cables longer? What cables would I use for that?

Does the buzzer work in the float switch ports or if I want the buzzer can I only have 2 temp probes?

My one module would be the water level module and it would be in sump so close to relay box so that should be OK.

I also want the Wifi but that does not take up your module space correct? I would not need a hub yet?

Yes, you can extend the cables.
The relay box cable is a svga cable.
Most people I've seen extending it just went with a breakout and used CAT5 cable.

The tunze can be CAT5 too.
The only one that you may have problems is the temperature. It can be extended over CAT5, but it will probably require a resistor at the end of it.
You would have to play it by year on that one.
Buzzer can be connected to ATO, but it will be faint.

I also realized I would need a lot less splicing if I used a basic float switch to turn on the feeding cycle and had the main unit beside the sump and QT tanks and that would solve the temp probe lengths.

To be honest, I prefer to use the android app instead.
I rarely look at the screen of my controller

+1 you wont need anything to trigger modes. A lot of people getting cheap android tablets to put by tank. Keep everything downstairs

You can pick up a cheap 4 or 7" tablet for around $50

i never look at my screen. i have it tucked away on top of my canopy. i just use my android phone.
