PH Calibration
Hi Guys,
Loving my RA.... My Tank is humming along...
One issue I notice is that my PH has been reading incorrectly since I got it.. It arrived with no fluid in it so I think it probably lost all it's calibration that was done.
PH reads around 7.0 (see my Banner)
PH tests 8.0 (tested numerous times with 2 different test kits)
I searched the forums and I see that in order to calibrate it, I need PH7 and PH10 solution? where do I get this?
Is this really needed?

Re: PH Calibration
I got mine from Bulk Reef Supply.

Are you saying there is no calibration fluid with the probe or there is no fluid in the probe itself.
If there is not fluid in the probe itself there maybe something wrong with it and may need to be replaced.

Re: PH Calibration
My PH probe arrived with all the fluid gone from the little container on the end. I assumed it all leaked out as there was salt creep all over the probe.

They do not come calibrated. There is no pre calibration.

Re: PH Calibration
I don't think this is a calibration issue.
If I remember mine when I got it there was a liquid in the end of the probe.
He is saying that his probe is dry.

Re: PH Calibration
Well I do
and in the OP he asked if calibration is required. If the liquid failed in the container, the soaking it a while should refresh the probe. But calibration is 100% required, as its not the probe you are calibrating but the head unit to the probe as each probe may read differently.
Honestly i would go to your LFS they should have some (if they are a quality marine shop) and go from there. Quite possibly the probe is shot but, I would definitely start there.

Oh it's my local buddy
Rob, Aquarium Village should have 7 and 10 calibration fluid. If they don't, I might have some packets left.
And he never said his probe was dry. Only that the container at the end had leaked out...also make sure you did take that container off the probe...

Pet's Warehouse does not...even though they are pretty stocked on everything. Go to AV, they should have both.goisles1 wrote:Sounds Good Lee!!

Yeah.. It was Dry.. completely.. I pulled the container off as well as the Red stopper that was on the end.. Put it in my sump for 24 hours.. then connected it to the RA.. per the advice I think I received from my 1st post when it arrived.lnevo wrote:Oh it's my local buddy![]()

I'll get it working!

Re: PH Calibration
There's a difference between the probe itself being dry and the fluid INSIDE the probe....

This fluid is just to keep the probe wet, but the probe itself has fluid inside it which is what is used to measure the ph. If that is gone, yes it will not work and you should PM roberto for an RMAMy PH probe arrived with all the fluid gone from the little container on the end. I assumed it all leaked out as there was salt creep all over the probe.

Re: PH Calibration
Yes he asked if calibration was necessary, but he also said " It arrived with no fluid in it", which he said a couple of other times in this thread, plus in his original thread entitled "New PH Probe arrived Dry"(http://forum.reefangel.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3805).
I know the probes need calibration, but I was also told when I first got mine that it would probably be pretty close to correct and not to sweat the calibration if my fluid did not get in before the probe did. I could still use the probe and it should be pretty close.
