Relay not responding to software changes

Post by wideawake »

Hi there,

My chiller (a 1hp compressor) has been connector to relay 5 for the past year and had no issues. Recently there was an incident that it was stuck to ON even though the app shows that it is supposed to be OFF. It caused my tank temp to go down to around 20 Celcius. I thought it was that particular relay is stuck so I updated to the new libraries and changed it to relay 6.

Today I found out that the relay did not turn ON even though software instructed it to turn ON. If I turn off the power to the controller, and turn it back on, it returns to normal. My controller's joystick seems to be stuck as well so I think this might be a rust issue.

I managed to open up the relay box but I have no idea how to separate the board and the plugs. My intention is to examine the relays or spray some lubricant or whatever. Are the relays replaceable and if yes how can I pry the board open and what parts are needed? I'm not from the US so sending it back is out of the question.

Thanks

On high inrush current equipment like these, there is a possibility of the relay failing prematurely because you are exceeding the amperage rating, even though just momentarily.
You can just pry them apart using a flat head screw driver. The sockets are just pressed into the pcb board.
You can also replace the relays. You can get Omron G2RL-1A4-E or any comparable.

Thanks Davaraj. Very helpful

How come it doesn't say Omron there? Will a solid state relay work? Or the legs might be different?

I think they are similar but from different maunfacturers.
The following images may help.
