I use two koralias 1050s.... Set on random times back and forth, about 35-45 seconds each pulse. Then during night time, I make it 20 second pulses with a one minute interval when neither is on...I am very happy wtith the pumps and the wave program... :). Oh the pumps are opposite sides of the tank facing each other

does it hurt the koralias to be on and off so much? do they ever run backwards?
would love to see a video if you have one! :)

The koralias are designed for lots of on/off...at least that's what the manufacturer says...they have never run backwards on me- hydor fixed that with these pumps...I don't have a video right now maybe I will post one on you tube later this week

This is good to know, I am hoping to use my Koralia 1050 and 750 as wavemakers

I'm using koralias, but they don't work good with wavemakers, the thing that makes then star in the right direction is a small rubber in from of the impeller and this rubber tend to break making then start backward, but that's for the evolution series, the magnum are ok, for wavemaker because they start electronically.

In my setup i have 4 koralia evo 1400, 2 are always on, and the other 2 are on the wavemaker in random mode between 1/2-2 hours, this way the pump don't stress that much from turning on/off, i'll use then until they break or until i have the money for some vortech.

are they the newer Koralias? they redesigned them because of that issue. They even sell their own wave controller for the evo's.

Yes they are, i haven't have this problem yet, but their design is like a band-aid over a gun shoot, in normal operation it will last forever, but with constant on/off it will break. That's why i went with higher intervals of time.

Problem with koralia evo is that the correct spin is controlled mechanically, the little rubber in front of impeller, and they will work find while this rubber is there, but if it break you'll have a pump that can start either way.

My tank is new, i set it on October and all the equipment is brand new, if you want pumps that can handle the stress and have a big enough tank go with koralia magnum if your tank is not that big go with jbj ocenstream.

Symon_say is right, how they fixed it is to put the thing in there that he is talking about. There doesn't seem to be another way around this issue with non-variable speed pumps. Mine have been going for the past 6 months and no breakage yet...at 35 dollars a pump, I will take what I can get, and hopefully it will be a long time before the rubber thing breaks. I haven't investigated to see if that piece can get replaced..

.Oh, another thing, these are the quietest power heads pumps I have ever owned, it makes a tiny, tiny click each time it goes on, but I have to put my hand on the magnet attachment to feel the vibration to see if it is on, it is that quiet.... :P That is a big plus for me...

hummm....
anyone now if I can use JBJ ocean stream on a RA with out there controller box? I am guessing it would be fine??
magums might be a bit big for my 75 gallon...it's going to be a softie LPS, nem tank so I really would like some back and forth movement.

Yes, JBJ can be use with RA, the controller on jbj is just a simple on/off controller, the same that RA do.

HUMMM might try it...or just go with 2 mp10.
speaking of MP10s do I need the wireless ES controller or can RA do all the cool stuff that the vortex ES can do?
in other words can I get just the pumps and run then on the Ra and still get all the performance that we pay high dollar for? or would that be like any other pump then?

Yes, you'll need the controllers on the pump, what RA do is take control of the wireless controller so you can make the changes from RA instead of the controller.
