night mode, feed mode, short wave, random long wave, etc.

You can do that with vortech, but if you are referring to koralias or jbj, they are still going to be just on/off.
Short wave would mean they turn on for 1 secons and off for 1 second. It would create a lot of stress on the pumps though. I don't think they are really meant for this constant on/off.
