Float switches sticking

Post by J_C »

Is anyone elses float switches sticking. My high side one keeps staying up even when the water level is below it. Anyone else having this issue?

Is my float switch defective? Did I install incorrectly?

Is it the floater that is sticking or something internally?
I have problems with the floater itself when I have calcium or coraline build-up.
Also when a colonista snail decides to go in there :( They are so tiny...

It looks like the foam part is stuck to the middle plastic part. The high switch is usually stuck in the up position, until I decide to check it and knock it back down.

It should slide pretty easily. Do you see anything that would make it get stuck?
If not, PM me for replacement.

I'm going to make a new bracket first, maybe it's the installation. I'll update then

Get two 1" pvc caps.

Drill a hole in the center of one that fits the float switch.

Drill a bunch of tiny holes in the other one.

Cut a piece of 1" pvc pipe 1.75" long. File or deburr the edges so they are smooth and round.

Assemble, you now have float protection that will keep snails and all sorts of other things from locking up your float. Don't glue anything. I would soak the float in vinegar and see if it bubbles. If it does I bet some type of small calcium based thing is stuck to it in a place you can't see.

Finally got the holder built. Nothing was on the switch. However, now it seems my code is messed up somehow. When the switch is triggered, nothing happens.

Which function are you using?
StandardATO or SingleATO?

I can't say. I used RAGen to make the code, I used the dual ATO function.

Try inverting the plugs on the controller. Place the low on high and vice versa.
Does it make a difference?

The bottom one pointing down triggers the start and the top one pointing up triggers it to stop.
