Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
My wifi seems to stop working after some period after booting the controller. The wifi may work a few minutes, or may work a few hours. The only LED is slow blinking green, quick flashing yellow when it does respond to a request. I have confirmed this same behavior no matter if using the portal, client suite, android app or straight web browser. I have also had the same result if the portal line in my ino file uses the portal password or not. Any ideas what may cause that?
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
Can you try to ping the wifi attachment next time this happens?
Roberto.
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
It replies to pings great when it operates properly. Once it stops responding to requests, it also stops responding to pings. Unplugging the wifi cable/reinserting and it responds normal again to all requests and pings.
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
Which utility did you use to set up your wifi?
There is the one that comes with the RA Installer and there is Dave's app.
Dave's app is here: https://github.com/davemolton/Graphical ... ves/master
Can you try doing factory reset and using another one?

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I did a factory reset, and believe the issue arises when the host= parameter is set in the wifi module. Leaving host=0.0.0.0 seems to be the stable configuration.
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I have the same issue but i was just too lazy to ask about it. Whenever i used to want to connect to the wifi module I had to unplug it from the controller then plug it back in, it would work for a while then it times out whenever I try to reconnect to it later.
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
how do you set the host to 0.0.0.0
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I set the host to 0.0.0.0 using Dave's wifi setup utility but still it didnt fix anything

Did you try doing factory reset and setting it up again?

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
is a hard reset any different from a soft reset?
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
Jumping on this bandwagon, from my portal updates I can tell the controller had been communicating with the portal, just not constantly. Tagging along to see the solution.
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
Looks like i am also in the same boat. my client suite is updating regularly whereas portal is not working. i am using both the apps on same network that too on the same system.
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I stopped reefangel client's service dash listener and logger. I've done a factory reset and I did setup the module again using the wifi setup app. I didn't put a host ip address in the setup app. it seems to be connecting faster than before now, it used to hang for a sec or two most of the time when i used to update or refresh data using reefangel Status app, now it updates instantly. I ll keep testing it for another day to make sure it was fixed.

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I have this same problem now - my wifi module works 100% until you connect to it with the status app, or android phone app.
I used the new wifi app to set it up, I have even tried a differen router. It works for a few seconds then stops responding.
If i ping it continuesly, without any app connecting to it, no problem - then connct to it with my android pone, and pings time out, or destination host is unreachable?
Any advice?

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I'm still trying to find out why some people are having this issue.
The strange thing is that it seems that if you set host to 0.0.0.0, it solves the problem.
But on the other hand, it will prevent the controller from sending data to the Portal.
Can you confirm that setting host to 0.0.0.0 solves the problem?

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I'll set up the module with daves app, not the new wifi app, and give you feedback later today Roberto
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
Just to let you all know my module started timing out again these days. I really have no clue why this is happening. it worked well for a couple of days after I did the reset and i thought it was fixed, now its back to its old habit.
I still have to disconnect it from the controller then reconnect it to be able to communicate with it right after doing so.
May be its something related to the routers configuration. I have allowed communication through port 2000 on the routers firewall. I have DHCP disabled on my router because I assigned a static local IP address to each computer or device connected to the router.

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
When you did factory reset, did you also update the firmware?
Can you run the wifi utility and click the button "Copy to Clipboard" and paste here?
I want to see which version of firware you are running.
I've contacted the manufacturer about this issue and they instructed to upgrade the firmware to latest as a first thing to try to solve the problem. It is strange that it only happens to just a handful of people and I keep wondering what you guys have in common...

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
The new wifi utility does firmware update for you
Or you can use teraterm or putty to send serial commands.

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I ran the wifi utility and I clicked on "view wifi settings" this is what i got:
get ip
IF=UP
DHCP=ON
IP=192.168.0.13:2000
NM=255.255.255.0
GW=192.168.0.1
HOST=0.0.0.0:2000
PROTO=TCP,
MTU=1460
FLAGS=0x7
BACKUP=0.0.0.0
<2.21> get w
SSID=107
Chan=0
ExtAnt=0
Join=1
Auth=WPA1
Mask=0x1fff
Rate=12, 24 Mb
Linkmon=0
Passphrase=*******
<2.21> get u
Baudrate=57600
Flow=0x0
Mode=0x0
it shows above that DHCP=ON and on the router DHCP is off do you think that might be the reason? if so how can i turn it off on the module

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
does it have a tab that I have to click on it to update the firmware or does it automatically update the firmware without asking? cause i just downloaded the wifi utility on this link https://github.com/davemolton/Graphical ... ves/master
but I cannot find a tab that says update firmware

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
There is a new update utility that comes with the new Reef Angel Installer, but we can do it on Dave's utility too.
You are running firmware 2.21
In the log, this is where the version is shown: <2.21>
I tried downloading 2.33, which is the version tha the manufacturer asked us to try, but it failed.
So, we will have to go with 2.32
Open Dave's utility
Connect to module
Click Tab "Advanced"
Type $$$ and hit enter
Type ftp u
It takes a few seconds and you will see something like this on the log:
<2.21> ftp u
<2.21> FTP connecting to 208.109.78.34
FTP file=51
.........................................................
FTP OK.
UPDATE OK
Type save and hit enter
Type reboot and hit enter
At this point, you should have 2.32

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
ok done the update now its version 2.32 do you think I should reset the module or should i test it without resetting cause it seems that the wifi settings were not affected by the update process so it seems there is no reason to reset it
Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
There is no need to factory reset, I believe.
Let's see how it behaves now.

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I connected the module to RA, i have not done a reset after update. its working now I hope it keeps working. I will let you know if it ever times out again as it used to.

Re: Wifi Periodically Stops Responding
I have been having woes with my wifi unit too.
Every now and then it will lose signal and start flashing green quickly even though it is in an area where there is good wifi signal (tested from my iDevices and laptop)
Then of late it has started flashing blue, and i have to resetup the whole unit from scratch. It will work like this for a day or two and then start doing the same thing!
Any one have an idea?
