potentiometer question

Post by civictuner04 »

sorry if this is a dumb question but i currently have a steves led diy kit and i hate it i have been trying to make it better by constantly tweaking it but it never is even or consistent in color or brightness. so i have been considering buying a cheaper led fixture buy 90% of them have potentiometers. is there a way i can unwire the pots and wire it to the reef angel some how to control the dimming aspect of it?

Have you thought about building your own LED system? I have done it using Aquasltyle online parts.

Take a look at http://forum.reefangel.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=788

There are a number of forum members that have bought parts from them and they also sell several kits, all of which are cheaper that already built units.

The task is not differcult and they send a diagram with the kits/parts. Go with the MeanWell drivers as they work well with the RA.

I bought my led kit from rapidled.com, they were great! And they work well with the Angel.

i have a aquastyle kit with pots on my wifes 20 gallon zoa tank
and the steves kit on my tank i really wanna switch to a already built fixture.
they have a cleaner look i just wish since i just bought the pwm expansion to utilize it.
the 3 im considering are in the $300 price range
right now im between
apollo reef uv 5000+ (looks like its analog contol), reef breeders photon 24(built in timer/dimmer, and ledtric full spectrum w/diming + remote

with the reef angel i wanted to be able to change colors via the iphone about but was never successful

I don't think you can convert the fixtures/drivers with pots to use PWM signal.
But, I can convert your dimming module to analog if you ever go the apollo route.
rapidled has a new fixture too you may want to check it out.

The onyx is not dimmable. I was looking at that too. I even asked them if they would build me a dimmable version and the said no.

There is a dimmable Rapid LED Onyx coming out next month. Can it be controlled with the RA?

Thanks!

I didn't want to say that before... ;)
But I knew they were coming out, but didn't know if they wanted me to say anything or not, so I kept quiet.
I've been told they are analog drivers and will be able to be controlled by RA.
