Mounting the head unit
Mounting the head unit
How does everyone mount their head units? My two sided tape keeps falling off.
Re: Mounting the head unit
Guess I just need to apply more Velcro tape. The glue on it doesn't stick well

Re: Mounting the head unit
I used the industrial strength Velcro and it worked good.
Re: Mounting the head unit
Velcro it is. I gotta redo everything Friday any way. Finally ordered the WiFi attachment

Re: Mounting the head unit
I did staple some of the pieces to the door but to the equipment nothing else has been necessary so far
Re: Mounting the head unit
I actually drilled holes in the back plate of my controller and then screwed it into a piece of wood and then screwed that into my back panel. Here's a picture... not the best shot but you can see the small piece of wood protruding from the sides of my controller and how it's screwed into the panel. it's a bad photo because of the wires everywhere and the fact that the panel is mounted to the back of my cabinet which is about a foot away from the wall which makes it hard to get a good photo.

Re: Mounting the head unit
I created a mount for the head unit by shaping a piece of acrylic to hold the unit by its sides. I used thin enough acrylic so that it remains flexible, which allows me to pop the head unit in and out of the mount. I measured how long the sides and back of the unit was, marked where i wanted my bends to be on the acrylic and then used a torch to very gently warm up the area where I wanted to make the bend. I make 1 bend at a time. Once warm enough, acrylic will stay pliable enough to work it for just under a minute. I warm up the area around the first bend, then place the RA in it and bend the acrylic around it. Dip the acrylic in cool water to get it to harden up and keep that shape. Heat the area for the second bend, then place the RA in the center and make the second bend. Now slide the RA out of the top or bottom and, while that second bend is still warm, squeeze it in to make it just a smidgen of a tighter bend; this will allow the acrylic to snugly hold the head unit. Cool the mount under more cool water. Drill a couple of holes in the back of the mount so that screws can pass through it (you'll crack the acrylic if you just try to bore a hole through it with a sheetrock screw). Mount to the wall. Enjoy. No more failing sticky pads or velcro. I make mounts for some of my float switches this way too.
